FOR THE LIFE YOU WANT TO LEAD

Therapeutic hypnosis for the life you lead, and the life you want to lead

What do you want? What do you want to do, and who do you want to be in this life? Maybe you once knew, but you’ve somehow forgotten. Maybe you’ve almost convinced yourself that you want what others want you to want. Maybe you have a specific goal, of losing weight, giving up the fags, changing city or career, of coming to London, or leaving London, getting on a plane, getting up on stage. Wherever you feel you are in life right now, if you have come to the realisation that nothing in your life will change until you change, come and meet me for a free introductory chat to see if hypnotherapy can offer you the place and the space to find out, to remember, who, what and where you really want to be, and what you really want to do. Let’s get started.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR VISIT

"tosach maith sin leath na hoibre"                                         -a good start is half the job done Irish proverb

We usually meet at our lovely therapy rooms in Dalston, which I share as part of a diverse and dynamic working community of therapists. The free, no-obligation introductory session of 20 or 30 minutes is an opportunity to briefly explain what hypnotherapy is, what it is not, and how trance works. You will not be hypnotised on your first visit, and you are very welcome to bring someone with you (and to all future sessions).  This introductory chat will be a place to answer any questions you a may have about the practice of therapeutic hypnosis. We will look at the goals you wish to achieve and I can suggest a plan of hypnotherapy sessions to help you achieve your goals. Hypnosis is an excellent way to help people with a wide range of issues, but if I feel you would be better served by another route, I will advise you accordingly, eg by accessing services through your GP (I am also a qualified nurse, practising in the NHS for 25 years) or perhaps another form of “talk therapy” (I have a good network of support with a range of other therapists and therapies, to whom I can refer you). Our first meeting is completely free and you will be under no obligation to return. But if you do take up hypnotherapy sessions with me, further sessions will cost £45 per hour (usually slightly more for evenings and weekends).

“You do not need to leave your room. Remain sitting at your table and listen. Do not even listen, simply wait, be quiet, still and solitary. The world will freely offer itself to you to be unmasked, it has no choice, it will roll in ecstasy at your feet.”

Franz Kafka

ABOUT HYPNOTHERAPY

We can simplify our model of the mind by saying it has two parts; our waking or conscious mind and our subconscious mind. The conscious mind has evolved to deal with our immediate condition. The conscious mind deals with where we are in time and space.
But the subconscious mind, which never sleeps and has a virtually infinite memory and source of wisdom, is the place where our core beliefs about ourselves and our world are stored. Trance is a naturally occurring state of consciousness in which, even during our waking hours, the subconscious mind takes control for a variety of cognitive reasons… we may experience this as a few moments of day-dreaming, and be unaware that we had in fact experienced a kind of trance, which facilitated some necessary neuro-physiological function. In hypnotherapy we use a variety of techniques to simulate the conditions conducive to trance to re-programme beliefs held in the subconscious (eg that we have to smoke, that we have to over-eat, that we’ll never find a boyfriend). And when the beliefs we hold about ourselves in our subconscious change, our lives change.

ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Brendan. I'm not everyone's idea of a hypnotherapist. I don’t play pipe music and I’ve never lit a scented candle in my life. I’ve been an A&E nurse for over a decade , as well as working in the Film and TV industry. I’m a gigging comedian and musician, a published author and poet. Although I'm a proud Geordie, from a beautiful village in Northumberland, I am a fluent Irish speaker, and involved in many Irish language cultural and educational events, in Ireland and in London. I am a singer-songwriter, composing and performing in English and Irish. I gig regularly on the London comedy scene, as a comic and MC, and write regularly for other comics. I have been involved in men's groups for many years, which is where I first learned of hypnotherapy and NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming). As a hypnosis client myself I gave up smoking, passed my driving test and achieved many personal goals through hypnotherapy. Now I have a goal of bringing to my own hypnotherapy clients the basic principle that I was brought up with, to enjoy life and to do and be whatever it is you know in your heart you were put on this Earth to be.
